Looking to December

Dear NESIR Colleagues,

Once again we had a great meeting this past Monday, featuring Dr. Ronald Arellano from MGH. He discussed different thermal ablation modalities and their application to intra-abdominal tumors. His main focus was the pros and cons of each technology and how to make educated choices. We had a great turnout and audience members engaged Dr. Arellano on a very productive Q&A session after his talk.

We also have great case presentations and Dr. Pradeep Goyal from Boston Children's Hospital was awarded the best case of the evening for his presentation "Embolization of Unusual Chylothorax". As always, a copy of Dr. Arellano lecture as well as cases presented will be uploaded to our website soon.

For December 9th, our guest speaker will be Doug Huynh, J.D., Director of Government and Policy Affairs at the Society of Interventional Radiology. The title of his talk will be "IR Economics: Overcoming Challenges and Delivering Quality Care". As we all know, health care in the US is undergoing deep and fast changes that have left many of us wondering how the future is going to look like. Even though Mr. Huynh is unlikely to answer this question, he will be presenting key information to help us be better prepared for the changes that are undoubtedly coming.

I hope you can join us next month. If you have not done so yet, please register, pay you dues and RSVP for the meeting. This can be done online at our website www.nesir.org.

Best,

Herlen Alencar, MD
